Easter Sunday, observed on the third day after Good Friday, commemorates the resurrection of Lord Jesus. It symbolizes his rebirth and the triumph of faith.
Easter is one of the most significant festivals in Christianity, observed two days after Good Friday. This year, Good Friday was marked on April 18, and Easter Sunday will be celebrated on April 20, 2025. Also known as Resurrection Sunday, this holy day symbolizes the rebirth of Jesus Christ and is celebrated with great joy and devotion.
According to Christian beliefs, Jesus Christ was crucified on Good Friday, and on the following Sunday, he rose from the dead. Easter Sunday is therefore seen as a miraculous and divine day, marking the resurrection of Jesus. The Bible states that Jesus came back to life on Easter Sunday and remained on Earth for 40 days, during which he preached love, forgiveness, compassion, and humanity to his disciples before ascending to heaven.
Meanwhile, tomorrow will mark six years since the tragic Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019, which targeted churches and hotels across the country.
Several programs are being held across the island to remember the victims.
Those who lost their lives in the attacks have been approved to be recognized as witnesses of faith or Heroes of Faith.
